CANON: Tokyo Ghoul: re
CANON POINT: After his death in chapter 83
AGE: 34
BACKGROUND: Wikia Link!
PERSONALITY:
Arima Kishou upon first glances is a calm and composed individual. He has been shown to keep an even and level head amidst even the most staggering and one-sided fights. His personality throughout his lifetime hasn’t changed very much and even as a teenager he is calculating and calm when fighting ghouls. Arima can also be rather cordial and open with people when speaking to other employees despite his high, almost mythical, standings among the other CCG members. Even though his stoic personality is a bit daunting he is capable of forming friendships as with Sasaki Haise and the biggest one being Taishi Fura who he has known for at least 12 years.
He doesn’t tend hold himself with an air of superiority nor does he try to assert that sort of power upon people in normal conversations. When dealing with ghouls and work that is an entirely different story. Arima doesn’t hide the fact of being a very harsh mentor, whether he does it to be a jerk or because he actually cares is another matter entirely however. The clearest example is his relationship with Take Hirako whom was one of Arima’s many subordinates and trainees. Arima treats Hirako with a cold indifference in many of the times we see them share a scene together. One of the biggest instances is when fighting Yomo and Uta’s group and Arima scolds Hirako for being .01 seconds too late with his attack, instead of actually praising him for his hard work. Arima might have done this to be helpful, but in truth it comes off as being condescending and crude. Even in his younger days he talked down to Taishi, his partner at the time, by making the subtle comments that the other was less smart than he was. This is also shown when Arima talks with an air of disrespect to the Chairman of the CCG as well. But given the recent developments and Arima’s loyalty to the organization known as V, we can assume his disrespect comes from the fact that he’s not loyal to the CCG or his family. Upon further learning of his history we can fully see why Arima despises the CCG now. His pompous attitude towards the chairman might have slipped out because he knows how much the CCG needs him and that’s why he says whatever he likes. Usually Arima is considerate and kind to those around him, such as after Mado’s death when he berated Itsuki Marude for speaking ill of Mado.
Arima is also categorized as a ‘sadist’ and that side of him has come out in a few incidents thus far. For example his fight with Kaneki and the fact that he stabbed both his eyes out during the final fight, such a heinous act was not necessary in the least. Another time being with Haise, and how he almost stabs the other’s eyes out with a pen as if to remind the other of his past loss against Arima. This subtle and harsh method of teaching the other is just a way for him to assert his control over Haise. In flashbacks it’s shown that Arima threatens and berates Haise/Kaneki that if he doesn’t perform up to standards Arima will dispose of him.
In terms of ghouls Arima can been seen as coming across to hate them, or at least he is ruthless when he fights them. His name the CCG Reaper is not just for airs and amongst the CCG he is a ghoul’s worst nightmare for that very reason. But despite that he greets and talks to ghouls in a respectful manner. His childhood affected him in many ways, which makes sense since he has been working with ruthless and harsh adults for much of his life. He’s built a barrier around himself as this hardened, emotionless, individual with no clear friendships to date due to this.
His solidarity comes up on many occasions, especially when having to write up his will and testament, something all CCG employees must do if they’re engaging in an especially hard fight. Arima has never once wrote one, suggesting that he truly doesn’t have any family to relate or talk to. This almost paints him as man who hates his job to some degree but can’t exactly run from it or escape it.
Upon his death in chapter 83 there's a lot of revelations behind why Arima is the way he is. He was simply a tool born and bred to kill ghouls for the Washuu's grand scheme. In this sense that is why he bred and groomed Haise to become something similar. Arima has always seen himself in the other man and his not killing Haise is indicative of this. Kaneki/Haise was always an outer representation of Arima's inner thoughts. They were something akin to one another from the very beginning and this is why Arima came to care for Haise so much.
The treatment which Arima endured is probably similar to what he did to Haise. Arima express his guilt for all the transgressions that he committed up until that point. He was a man that could never live his life the way he really wanted to, and could never go against the CCG. So this is all that he knew and that's probably the reason why he did those things to Haise. In the end however, we see him take his life, a final step towards him attaining true freedom, peace, and finally death. It's a fitting ending for the man named the reaper because his entire life has been entrenched in death, and finally he was able to bring about his own.
I hated myself, who only ever stole from others…
I was finally… able to leave something…
These two lines sum up Arima's inner thoughts quite well. He hated the person he turned into; so much so that he went against the rules and made Haise right in front of the Washuu's and CCG's faces.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Arima is a human/ghoul hybrid and this allows him to attain a battle prowess that is on par with that of the most powerful ghouls. He is the only combatant thus far to win both battles between the fake one-eyed owl and the real one as well and come out without any injuries to note. He has the speed and reflexes, which match ghouls who are on another level, and he often goes up against SS rated ghouls alone. He took on Kaneki, who was SS rated at the time, by himself and in his early years as an investigator he was able to easily neutralize Renji Yomo and Yakumo Oomori. He’s easily able to wield his Quinques and brings out their potential easily making him a strong and feared adversary to most of the ghouls in the series.
What this basically means is that Arima's reflexes are so good that he dodges point blank attacks on his person from behind and from multiple targets at the same time. Despite his limitations regarding his eye sight and failing health, he’s able to take down multiple ghouls on his own always coming out unscathed unless it’s Kaneki or Eto.
In terms of his strength he can basically block attacks from beings much stronger than himself without breaking a sweat and while holding his ground. There's never really a time where he's thrown back from an enemy attack and he always parries perfectly even if he is limited by being mostly human.

[ A text will appear on the screen with the simple name 'Arima Kishou' attached to it. ]
Where would you begin...if you had the chance to start over? [ A pause as he waits for any replies. This is a kinda new for him...talking and openly asking things to such a large crowd of people. Arima doesn't know how to 'people' very well after all. ]
There are many opportunities with which this place allows us to decide. It's a bit overwhelming when you're not used to such things. Having the freedom to choose is a thing we all take for granted.
[ At least that's how he feels after everything that's happened. Though way to sullen the mood, Arima, gosh. ]
But I'm sure saying that is obvious to most of you. Either way I will check for any suggestions given.
